JUST CHURCH OR REAL WORSHIP?

by Pastor Kent Kirchmeyer

How often have we said or heard the following, "I didn't get anything out of the service today." Even if we turn it around and confirm the positive and say "we had a great service today and I really got a lot out of it" we are still missing the point of real worship. If our focus is only on receiving something out of the service then we are missing out on real worship. As a whole we have drifted so far AWAY from real worship that we no longer even understand the concept and we end up just "having church." We need to return to a biblical understanding of why the church was created in the first place. We were created to worship and to serve. Worship and service is giving not receiving!

"Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness." 1 Chronicles 16:28-29

"But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple." Psalm 5:7

"We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool." Psalm 132:7

"I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee. I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name." Psalm 138:1-2

"The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." Revelation 4:10-11

Our church service ought to be a WORSHIP service. When we come to worship we come to sing and to give praise to His name. When we come to worship we come to give our offerings in thanksgiving for all He has given to us. When we come to worship we come to give Him our hearts and minds as we hear His Word proclaimed. When we depart from the worship service we go out into the world with a spirit of obedience and service to Him!

Don't be satisfied with just going to church. Come and let us worship the Lord Jesus Christ together in a spirit of unity and truth!

"God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4:24
